The Stack biography, written in 2001.
STACK was formed in December 1993, when my ex-girlfriend Corey (bass) and l wanted to do something else music wise than the stuff we did with the band we were playing in at that time: ABOLlTlON.
So we asked Ralf (drums) and a student-colleague of mine called Marcel (guitar), if they would like to form a band. A couple of weeks later ABOLITION split up and we decided to do STACK ‚full-time‘. Another few weeks later Chris of NYCTOPHOBIC (guitar) joined in. Like every band we needed a name and since Coreys‘ bass
distortion Pedal had the most brutal sound we’ve ever heard we deceided for this pedals name to become the bands name: STACK.
ln April 94 we started playing shows and in May we recorded a 5 track demo. One song of that demo (Natural) made it on the „No desire to continue living“ 10“ compilation and one song (Armistice) appeared on the Plot LP compilation. It took another year before we entered the studio again to record the songs for the split 7“es
with SEElN’RED and CAPlTALIST CASUALTIES. Those releases helped us a lot to get more known.
ln June 95 Corey left the band and to be replaced by a guy who called Bernd. He stayed for like 5 months and left the band in January 96. He was replaced by a guy called Michael. From now on we had the tight line up and played tons of shows and tours with bands like SEElN’RED (we toured like 4 times with those guys), DROP DEAD, CAROL and EBOLA or did week-end-trips with whatever band that was touring Europe. In September 1996 we recorded the songs for our 7“ called ‚Mondonervaktion‘, the 6“ called ‚Selbstfindungsgruppe‘, the split 7“ with CAROL and two songs for the „A Tradition of…“ 7“ comp. In January 1997 we entered the studio again to record the songs for the split 7″ with NARSAAK.
After a three weeks tour in the summer of ’98 Marcel left the band and we became a fourpiece for s few months before we split up for the first time in November 98 due to personal difficulties. Up to that point we had played 138 shows. In June 99 we reformed with a new bass player called Steffen (also playing guitar in FEAR lS THE PATH TO THE DARK SlDE), Ralf on drums, Chris on guitar and me
on vocals to play our first show in September 1999. In March 2000 Chris decided to leave the band due to personal reasons. Steffen took over the guitar and Michael returned to play bass again. A couple of weeks later he found out that he’s not into the music anymore. This seamed to be the end of STACK, cause we couldn’t find a new bass player and everyone of us was to busy with other
projects. We wanted to record the last songs and Chris was willing to do the guitar tracks. During the recording-session for the „Konkret Lichtgeschwindigkeiti 10″/12“ he told us that we would be willing to join the band again. So here we are…
